80 adopted families tour Mediacorp through its Radio Gives Back initiative

To celebrate its 80th anniversary, Mediacorp and Shell Petroleum, which is commemorating their 125 years in Singapore, took more than 60 people from 80 adopted families on a tour of the broadcaster’s studios.

The tour, which was a part of Mediacorp’s Radio Gives Back initiative, was conducted on Sunday.

In February, Mediacorp and Shell Petroleum ran a two-week campaign from April on all Mediacorp radio stations, asking listeners to fill up at Shell.

For every pump made, Shell donated $1.25 and encouraged their customers to trade in 125 points for a $5 donation.

The drive collected $401,495, which will be disbursed to some of the 80 needy families Mediacorp has adopted to help with their children’s education, utility and medical bills and daily necessities.

Radio Gives Back is an initiative launched in 2011 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of radio broadcasting in Singapore and its making a comeback this year to celebrate its 80th anniversary.

Debra Soon, Chairperson of Mediacorp’s Radio 80 Committee, said: “Through Shell’s involvement, we were able to bring our adopted families for a movie and also helped raise funds for them through island-wide Shell stations. These meaningful contributions and continued support from Shell will definitely benefit the families in need.”
