ABU Prizes winners announced: Audio

 

The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has announced its list of winners for the ABU Prizes 2016.

Winners were chosen in six Radio categories and for a Special Jury Prize from more than 90 entries.

The pre-selection was done through correspondence by more than 50 independent juries nominated among ABU members.

They were all recognised for their professionalism and excellence demonstrated in their programmes submitted to the contest this year.

In the Drama category, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) was the winner for its entry titled ‘Vibration’- a tale of a soldier injured in the war, now is in a new struggle for self-recognition and recovering lost memories that he will need to continue his life.

 

 

In the Documentary category, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) won for its entry ‘An Age of Our Own: War Times – 70th Anniversary Commemoration of the End of WWII’. The programme reviews Hong Kong’s history during the WWII through personal recollection of those who have lived in that period.

 

 

In the News Reporting category, Radio and Television of the People’s Republic of China (RTPRC) and China National Radio (CNR) won for their entry titled 36 Days. It is a feature report on the effort to rescue four miners who were trapped in a collapsed mine in Shandong Province for 36 days, including the interview of one of the miners after he was rescued.

 

 

In the Community Service Announcement (CSA) category, All India Radio (AIR) was the winner for its entry Diary of a Tiger. The announcement aims to raise the awareness of tiger extinction. The message was conveyed from the viewpoint of a tiger who narrates the lives of his ancestors over the course of time from a family diary.

 

 

Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) won in Interactive Programme category as well for its entry Iranian Online – a programme that utilises social networks to improve social standards and enable all groups of the society to take part in a social platform.

 

 

Radio and Television of the People’s Republic of China (RTPRC) and China National Radio (CNR) won another prize in the Innovative Programme category for Chinese Voice – Chinese New Year. This programme incorporates the app WeChat’s voice interaction software in a contest that was held in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2016.

 

 

The Special Jury Prize went to Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) and Radio Chillmari from Bangladesh for The Destroyed Dream – a story about a girl who is doing well in her education but was forced into child marriage and lives a sorrowful life after that.
