All new Suria FM goes beyond radio

A subsidiary of Star Media Radio Group, Malaysia’s Suria FM will be introducing a variety of new content throughout 2017, as it celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

The Bahasa Malaysia station has 2.2 million listeners in the country and broadcasts a selection of popular music ranging from the mid-90s to current hits.

The announcement features a refreshed on-air line up that includes Suria Pagi with Halim Othman, Zulin Aziz and Fizi Ali, Menu Suria  wiyjBrian Chen, Waroong Suria  with Bob Ringgo, Suria Petang with Tyzo and Suraya and Suria Cinta  with DJ Lin.

Recently, Suria began producing short online videos based on some of its on air segments such as #ApaItuCinta, Parodi Zulin and Suria Jam which can be viewed on the station’s website.

The move paid off as Suria’s digital platform has more than one million viewers to date and the number is growing.

This has spurred the station to create more original content in various genres ranging from travelogues to serial dramas, horror-documentaries and entertainment programmes.

In the pipeline is a series called #BFF that revolves around the friendship between two celebrities and the challenges they face while on a road trip.

The station will also be releasing a serial drama based on real-life stories from callers to its popular Suria Cinta segment featuring popular local artistes in the lead roles.

It will also be producing a 10-minute long entertainment news programme featuring the latest news and exclusive inside scoops, known as Sensasi Suria.

The Siri Jelajah Suria 10 Tahun road tour will kick off in Johor this April followed by Terengganu, Penang, Ipoh and culminating in Shah Alam, Selangor. This road tour is Suria’s gift to its listeners, presenting them with the chance to get up close with the Suria announcers as well as popular artistes including Akim & The Majistret, Siti Nordiana, Hazama, Tomok, Black, Amy Search, Dato Hattan, Kaka Azraff, Zarul Husin, Sufian Suhaimi, Khai Bahar and many others.

In the month of Ramadan, the station will be working together with local celebrities and several charitable bodies on a community service project.

“Thankfully, this year is the year where Suria gets to expand its platform in spreading information and providing entertainment to public. We are no longer restricted to merely audio, in fact we bring forward everything visually and physically through our digital videos as well as our Suria road tours,” said Subarma Mohtaruddin, Suria FM General Manager Programming.

“In line with the ‘Segalanya Hiburan’ (Everything Entertainment) theme, our objective is to become a creative digital channel by producing original, high quality content. This is because we believe that it will attract more people to the Suria brand,” said Shahida Azad, better known as Shy, Suria’s Senior Manager, Content and Digital.
