Indian station Planet Radio City wins RAIN award in USA

 

Indian radio network Radio City’s online platform PlanetRadiocity.com has won the award for International Excellence in online radio at this week’s RAIN Summit in Atlanta Georgia USA.

Announcing the award, RAIN Summit founder Kurt Hanson commended the station, which has 70 percent Indian and 30 percent international listening, for winning the award for its online success across the world.

Launched in August 2008, PlanetRadiocity.com is India’s largest web radio network with 21 online radio stations spread across genres from film music to regional to international, indie, rock, romantic, fusion and devotional.

It reaches out to 1.5 million unique visitors every month.

RAIN awards recognise the achievements and the best practices of the Internet radio industry across various categories.

Commenting on the award, Rachna Kanwar, Business Head, Digital Media & New Business, Radio City 91.1 FM said: “The category attracts entries from across the world and we are honoured to be chosen as the best. To be recognized at a platform where the best in the world of Internet Radio and Online Audio industry converge is a big high.”

Other award winners this year included OWow Radio for Best Single-Stream Webcaster.

oWOW Radio is an independently owned and operated pureplay, featuring well-known local and former terrestrial radio personalities.

WEEI was chosen the Best Streaming Broadcast Station. The station stream achieves 1.1-million listening hours per month.

Planet Money NPR for Best Podcast Series. In production since 2008, this NPR production explains the economy to listeners, deconstructing how global changes and the mechanics of high finance impact the average person.

The award for Best Overall Digital Strategy went to PRX (Public Radio Exchange) while Pandora won the Best Overall Online Radio Service award.
