Indonesian rock critic Denny Sakrie dies

Famous Indonesian music critic Denny Sakrie passed away on Sunday aged 51, according to Jakarta Post.

Sakrie, whose real name was Hamdan Syukrie, died following a cardiac arrest.

He was born in Maluku in 1963 and began his radio career as an announcer for Madama Radio in Makassar.

He later relocated to Jakarta and wrote for various publications including Tempo, Kompass and Rolling Stone Indonesia.

Sakire was also a judge at major music competitions and appeared in local movies, playing characters similar to him.

Shortly before he died, Sakire finished the manuscript for 100 Tahun Musik Indonesia (1905-2005) (100 Years of Indonesian Music), chronicling the country’s music scene.
