Live 89.5 Phuket launches new show

Phuket’s Live 89.5 is looking to reach more younger listeners with the ‘Asian Pop Radio’ show from Monday.

The English language FM radio station has been broadening its listener base since getting back on air after the shutdown of many stations following last year’s military coup.

‘Asian Pop Radio’ is a weeknight show with J Jon, who has been presenting the syndicated program in Australia for the past three years.

The program will air Monday to Thursday from 9pm and lead into the regionally syndicated ‘Asia Pop 40’ with Dom Lau on Friday nights.

The station’s Manager, Tim Newton said: “We were off air for 4 months following the political coup and we’ve emerged as the only FM station on the island. In the past we were one of three and sat somewhere between the other two stations with an Adult/Contempory format. To cover a wider spectrum of listeners we’ve had to radically overhaul our music list and add a greater variety of programs. It sounds like a good position to be in but we’re taking the responsibility very seriously.”
