New York Festivals announces Winners; Golds for India, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand

New York Festivals® International Radio Program Awards , honouring the World’s Best Radio Programs℠, announced this year’s award-winners at the annual Radio Awards Gala tonight at New York City’s Manhattan Penthouse. To view the full list, please visit: HERE

Content creators from prominent networks and production companies in Asia Pacific earned a total of Grand Award, 8 Gold trophies, 7 Silver, 17 Bronze and 58 Finalist Certificates. 

“As the radio landscape evolves to accommodate the shift in the way individuals consume audio, New York Festivals Radio Awards is at the forefront celebrating all popular forms of audio content available today,” Rose Anderson, VP & Executive Director, New York Festivals.

India

Indian entries won a total of 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 7 Bronze and 35 Finalist Certificates.

Club FM was the only Gold winner for its entry titled “Kuzhi Map” (Potholes Map) in the Public Service Announcement Promotion category. It also won 2 finalist nominations.

Red FM won a Silver in the same category, along with 11 Finalist Certificates.

Radio Mirchi was the other Silver winner, in the Best Comedy/Humour Personality category in On-Air Talent Category Group. It also won a Bronze and 5 Finalist Certificates.

Radio City won 4 Bronze and four Finalist Certificates, 94.3 MY FM got one Bronze and 2 Finalist Certificates, Fever 104 FM took home one Bronze and 7 Finalist Certificates, Radio Mango won 2 Finalist Certificates while Ishq 104.8 FM  and 94.3 Radio One had one Finalist Certificate each.

Hong Kong

Radio Television Hong Kong’s News reporting struck Gold with “Dying Young” (Best Coverage Of Ongoing News Story), in addition the network earned a Silver trophy for “Young Political Prisoners” (Best Coverage of Ongoing News Story) and a Bronze for “No Road Back, No Regrets -Two Years after 709 Crackdown” (News Report/Features). The network also was recognized with 6 Finalist Certificates.

South Korea

Busan English Broadcasting Foundation’s “Teaching the Unseen World” (Educational) earned a Gold trophy for Busan E-fm. Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) was honored a Bronze trophy for “Song of the Shaman” (Religious Programming) and an additional two entries were recognized with Finalist Certificates.

Philippines

ABS-CBN Corporation Philippines’ “Battle of Marawi” (Best Extended News Coverage) was honored with a Finalist Certificate.

Singapore

“Eeva's Singapore” Eeva Productions was in the winner’s circle earning 2 Gold trophies for both Best Sound and Best Narration.

Australia

Australia earned 1 prestigious Grand Award, 1 Gold trophy, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze and 10 Finalist Certificates.

Guardian Australia’s “The Reckoning” (Best Digital Documentary) earned the Grand Award for their documentary exploring Australia’s child sexual abuse royal commission’s five-year examination of crimes against children. Over 8000 private sessions with survivors, make this the largest independent national inquiry of its kind in the world. “The Reckoning” also earned a Gold trophy.

“Blackbirding” Nance Haxton/Australian Broadcasting Corporation was in the spotlight earning both Silver (History) and Bronze (Profiles/Community Portraits) trophies for this groundbreaking story on Australia's hidden slave trade.

New Zealand

Radio New Zealand took home 2 Gold trophies for their Audio Podcasts “The Lost” (News and Documentary) and “Guyon Espiner interviews Winston Peters MP” (Health). It also earned a Silver trophy for “Jim Mora” and Bronze trophies for “Bang!,” “The Crazy Kiwi Christmas Kids Show,” “Kids and Porn,” “Kathryn Ryan,” and “Kim Hill,” and 3 Finalist Certificates.  New Zealand’s Eyesound was honored with a Silver trophy for Station ID “Coast Imaging 2017.”

RTÉ Ireland was honored with the title Broadcaster of the Year for the fifth consecutive year. The network took home an impressive 8 Gold Trophies, 11 Silver, 2 Bronze and 15 Finalist Certificates. 

Jim Jennings, Head of Content RTÉ, said: “I am delighted that RTÉ has been named New York Festivals’ Radio Broadcaster of the Year three times in the past four past years. The international competition is exceptional and those who have entered are all experts in their fields which makes this particular achievement a great honour for everyone in RTÉ. This is extremely important to us as a public service broadcaster. Across the board, from the acclaimed Documentary on One and Drama on One, to our Factual, Current Affairs, Arts, Music and Entertainment programs and Lyric fm, our production teams have demonstrated their capacity to compete and win against some of the largest and best of the world's broadcasters.”

London’s TBI Media was recognized with the title of Production Company of the Year. TBI’s “Born This Way” earned the Grand Award for both TBI Media and BBC Radio 2.

The New York Festivals Grand Trophy was also awarded to the following entries: “BBC Radio 1 Vintage” BBC (Best Digital Special Event). “Am I going to die in here?” Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Campus (News & Documentary) and The Guardian Australia’s “The Reckoning” (Best Digital Documentary).
