Open doors at Uzbekistan radio station for World Radio Day

 

UNESCO, jointly with the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan organised an ‘Open Doors’ event for professionals and students from the journalism faculties on Thursday, to mark the sixth World Radio Day (WRD).

WRD is celebrated on February 13 and this year its theme is ‘Radio is You!’.

WRD was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2011 to celebrate radio as a medium, improve cooperation between broadcasters and to encourage major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality over the airwaves.

The ‘Open Doors’ event aimed to evoke better communication and serve as a mediator between the society and the government.

A live radio programme ‘The Theme of the Day’ on radio Uzbekistan gathered decision makers from the Ministry of Higher Education and other relevant bodies as well as the civil society to discuss and make recommendations to improve higher education system in Uzbekistan.

A live radio programme ‘Virtual World’ invited radio professionals to talk about Radio and its role in the lives of people. The programme prepareed vox-pops, collected interviews and aired them to analyse the needs of people and ways to approach these needs through radio.
