Portugese agency creates treatment for ADHD on radio

The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects five to eight percent school children and it is estimated that at least 80,000 children in Portugal are affected by this problem.

Portuguese independent agency, Nylon, recently found an alternative treatment for the disorder using radio spots.

Their campaign, ‘Radio Sound Therapy against ADHD’, created radio spots with therapeutic effects on the hyperactivity treatment.

They brought together a team of health professionals, pedagogues, psychologists, staff from the Portugese Association of the Hyperactive Child, sound therapists who specialise in Tibetan singing bowls, sound technicians from one of the most well-known studios in the country and Radio Comercial.

The spots featured fantasy stories narrated by well-known Portugese personalities combined with sound frequencies emitted by the Tibetan singing bowls.

The vibrations from the bowl produce specific frequencies which are recorded and when reproduced on radio, they change the beta frequencies of brain waves into an alpha state to make the children feel they had a real massage.

The brain becomes more open to information and to performing tasks, helping hyperactive kids have better days and feel more relaxed at night.

Over two million listeners heard the spots made by the Lisbon based agency.
