Radio Republik Indonesia signs cooperation agreement with DRM

DRM Consortium Chair Ruxandra Obreja told a gathering of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) members in Instanbul, “We have some good news to announce tonight.”

RRI and the DRM Consortium then signed a co-operation agreement that will see Indonesia test DRM transmissions across its vast archipeligo.

The cooperation agreement was signed on behalf of RRI by R. Niken Widiastuti (President) and M. Rohanudin (Technology and New Media Director).

The DRM Consortium was represented by the DRM Chairman, Ruxandra Obreja and Vice Chair, Alexander Zink.

Sunarya Ruslan, Head of Supervisory Board of Radio Republik Indonesia, said: “This is the first step for RRI to implement digital radio to serve the people of Indonesia.”
Rohanudin, added: “Digitisation of broadcasting is the first point of entry of new technologies into a country that consists of islands like Indonesia. Its presence must have the support of all parties to convince the Indonesian society of using this technology.”

Obreja, DRM Consortium Chairman, is delighted to have the Consortium working so closely with RRI: ” The DRM trial and workshop earlier in the year opened up possibilities and interest in a key Asian market like Indonesia, whose needs can be excellently met by DRM”.

Radio Republik Indonesia has been considering digital radio options for some time, and this latest announcement indicates that the country may add Digital Radio Mondial transmission systems onto one or more of the national broadcaster’s existing transmission installations.

No specific details of just what the co-operation agreement would entail were discussed at the announcement.

RRI President Rosarita Niken Widiastuti and Ruxandra Obreja display the signed co-operation certificate after the signing.
