Radio Thailand turns 89

Radio Thailand, which is operated by the country’s Public Relations Department (PRD), celebrated its 89th anniversary last week.

It operates six national FM services, 65 provincial FM services, four national AM stations, 46 provincial AM stations and a World Service. Some of its provincial stations can also be received in Malaysia, Laos and Myanmar.

It marked the occasion with a wreath-laying ceremony to pay homage to Prince Purachatra Jayakara, who is considered the Father of the Thai Radio Broadcasting.

The event was attended by the PRD Deputy Director-General, Charoon Chaisorn, and other public and private radio broadcasting personnel.

Chaisorn said that Radio Thailand has developed a modern news presentation pattern, and the public can follow the news on the radio as well as via Facebook Live, which also allows the audience to express their opinions.

The broadcaster appealed to the public to make donations to Srithanya Hospital on the occasion.
