Radio Thought Leaders panel at Broadcast Indonesia: Audio and Video

Astro Radio contributes 7% of income, but 25% of profit to the Malaysian media company’s bottom line, according to Astra Radio CEO Jake Abdulla.

Speaking in a Leaders Panel session at Broadcast Indonesia, Abdulla discussed the success of the division’s formats, the mixed success of streaming service Raku, and his thoughts for the future of radio. “I want to be in the listeners heads.”

Commercial Radio Australia’s Joan Warner said the radio industry in Australia “is at the top of the social media engagement scale,” so advertisers want to be involved with radio through traditional advertising and also through events, product sampling and other engagement strategies.

Managing Director of RADIOactive Singapore, Aloysius Tan, warned conference delegates that they should not give away their content for nothing on other IP platforms such as streaming, YouTube and social media. “Get something for it,” he said, explaining various ad insertion methods that are available for broadcasters.

RCS’ APAC Vice President Keith Williams told delegates to focus on making great content and not worry so much about how it is delivered, because deli very methods are evolving. Software solutions can “suck out the content” and deliver it to whatever platform is needed, according to Williams.

In a 45 minute panel discussion, moderated by AsiaRadioToday’s Steve Ahern, the four industry thought leaders ranged across topics including programming, technology, advertising, ratings surveys, podcasts and digital radio.
