VOV 5 World Service is Vietnam's voice to the world.
The Vietnamese world service channel has been going for many years speaking in many languages, but has now introduced a new channel inside Vietnam.
Eighteen months ago VOV added an English channel aimed at English speakers, ex-pats and also those wanting to learn English.
It is the only one in Vietnam.
“English is being spoken more in Vietnam now, so a lot of people are listening to improve their English language skills,” she said.
The English channel is using new innovations, including social media and new style promotions that are not common on other VOV channels.
One of the innovations is asking listeners into the studio as guest playlisters. To promote those special playlist shows, the producers film a promo video for the show using the guest playlister, and post it onto facebook. It has increased interest and listenership to the show.
“Of course we also invite famous singers to the show to play their original songs and talk about their music,” she said, playing highlights of high profile Vietnamese pop stars in her presentation.
“We like to try everything, we are free to do anything in this format because they are music and entertainment shows, so there are no restrictions from government,” she said.
“We are getting very positive feedback from the listeners for the snack sized clips of pop stars singing in our show. The numbers of people we get sharing these clips means a lot to us because it shows that people like what we are doing.
“We have many more ideas to make our shows better like music on request, cover versions competitions and live acoustic sessions… we are eager to change for the better to reach out to more people…
“We love our job, we want people to feel the love we have for the radio.”
