ABU Prizes 2017 finalists announced

The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has announced its list of finalists for the ABU Prizes 2017.

Introduced since the inception of ABU in 1964, the ABU Prizes is an annual competition that has garnered interest from both ABU and non-ABU Members year after year.

The ABU Prizes aim to promote excellence in Radio and TV production in order to raise educational and cultural standards and to strengthen international understanding among the people of the ABU member countries and regions.

This year, with a new category, the ABU Perspective Awards, introduced for radio, there would be 14 categories available to be won by ABU Members. This is in addition to the Special Jury Award that will be given for one TV and radio category each. This award is to recognise the entry that would impress the juries despite using limited resources for its production.

ABU Prizes 2017 received more than 260 entries for radio and TV categories, and 50 pre-selection juries spent nearly two months for the pre-selection.

All India Radio leads the list of radio finalists with four entries, China Radio International, Bangladesh NGO’s Network for Radio and Communication, The Voice of Vietnam and Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting have three entries each while, RTHK, Bangladesh Betar and China National Radio have two entries each.

National Radio and Television of Afghanistan, Bhutan Broadcasting Service, Radio Romania, RT Channel, Russia, Hungarian Public Service Media, Radio Republik Indonesia, iM4U Malaysia, Korean Broadcasting System and Iran’s Soroush Multimedia Corporation each have one finalist entry.
