The number of cars with line-fit DRM Digital Radio enabled radio sets on the Indian roads is quickly nearing a million.

All India Radio, the public broadcaster, has engaged in the past few years in the largest radio digitisation roll-out in the world.  With 39 powerful DRM transmitters installed and operational today, AIR is already covering a large part of the subcontinent and an estimated 600 million people with digital DRM radio services.

Record year for DAB receiver sales

Almost 12 million DAB receivers were sold in 2017 in Europe and Asia Pacific, a new record for yearly sales. Almost half (5.9m) of the sales were for automotive devices, with key markets showing a significant increase in the number of cars sold with DAB fitted as standard.

Under the banner "Digital Radio Mondiale Drives Forward", the 2018 General Assembly of the DRM Consortium is scheduled to take place on April 17 and 18 at Mallorca, and is being hosted by Bosch and RFmondial. 

The General Assembly is where the strategy and working plan for the next year is set for DRM. This year's Assembly will also serve as an election year for the Chair and all leading bodies of the Consortium.

First listener survey results after Norway's digital switchover #RDE18

Only three months after FM was switched off in Norway, a listener survey (Digital Radio Survey, Kantar Media) shows the new digital stations have up to one third of all radio listening. 

Most radio listeners still tune into radio, and the new digital stations have shown strong growth. 

These are some of the findings presented by a group of Norwegian stakeholders at Radiodays Europe 2018, the radio industry's annual European assembly. A new report from the year of switchover can be viewed online at www.radiodso.com.

The latest Audi A8 is on display at RadioDays Europe.

Audi is a thought leading company when it comes to connected cars.

The model on display has a fully connected dashboard entertainment system, which can use the embedded SIM Card in the car or tether to the SIM from the driver's phone.

It can seamlessly switch between the different transmissions of broadcast radio, AM, FM and Digital Radio, saving the driver from incurring data costs, and when the signal goes out of range it can find the station again from its stream to continue listening.

Nine new organisations have joined WorldDAB since the start of 2018, taking its membership to 104 organisations from 29 countries, including over 1,200 experts from broadcasters, regulators and network providers through to manufacturers of receivers, chips, professional equipment and automobiles.
