RTHK has come under fire from some Hongkongers for dropping the 24 hour BBC World Service Radio relay on its local AM 675 transmitter, and a petition has been launched to get the feed back on air.

WorldDAB General Assembly 2017 dates announced

The WorldDAB General Assembly 2017 will take place in Paris on 7-8 November.

The event brings together over 200 digital radio experts to discuss the future of digital radio, DAB+ rollouts around the world and a European vision for digital radio.

The time is now for countries to move together towards the rollout of DAB digital radio, with receiver prices continuing to fall, car manufacturers fitting DAB as standard, the DSO process moving forward and politicians working towards increased collaboration at the EU level.

One of our most commented-on international reports this year has been Norway's switch over to digital radio.

The proponents of the analog switch off have put forward the benefits of going fully digital, such as lower costs and more channels, but, judging by some of the comments on our pages, not everyone in Norway is as convinced as those who have organised the switch over.

The radio world has been watching Norway to see if its bold experiement to switch off Analog FM radio and replace it with DAB+ digital radio will be successful.

So far so good, according to Jørn Jensen (pictured) from Norway's national broadcaster NRK.

Jensen was in Malaysia this week at the DBS2017 Digital Broadcasting Symposium, just weeks after the first FM transmitters in Norway were switched off.
