This year’s Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) General Assembly ended by announcing that All India Radio, the Indian public broadcaster, has now joined the Consortium and its leading bodies.

Radio Republik Indonesia to showcase DRM for local coverage

On the first day of the DRM Consortium's annual General Assembly held in Switzerland, it was announced that the DRM Consortium will join the Indonesian public broadcaster Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) in the upcoming demonstration of DRM for local coverage in Batam, Indonesia, from May 16 to 18.

AIR set for second phase of DRM rollout

At this week's Digital Broadcasting Symposium, Digital Radio Mondiale's Ruxandra Obreja revealed news from Pakistan about the latest developments in digital radio broadcasting in that country.

"Radio Pakistan has taken first steps to digital migration," said Obreja.

"They have imported 20 DRM+ Transmitters from Gartes Air and have successfully tested one transmitter so far...

"The next step is to promote digital technology in the country and plan field trials across the country."

During the DRM session at this week's Digital Broadcasting Symposium, DRM Chair Ruxandra Obreja explained that Digital Radio Mondiale can use existing transmission infrastructure and can broadcast on all broadcast bands, Shortwave, AM and FM.

In the first session of this year’s Digital Broadcasting Summit in Malaysia, the ABU’s Secretary General Javad Mottaghi told delegates, “broadcasters must commit to a digital future.”

Using all the possibilities of digital, broadcasters should aim to pursue innovation and rich content according to Mottaghi.

Commercial Radio Australia’s Joan Warner said radio is the most robust and reliable communications channel. It’s free, accessible and innovative, and now it is also digital.

DRM workshop at Digital Broadcasting Symposium in Kuala Lumpur

The Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium (DRM) will be participating in the upcoming Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Digital Broadcasting Symposium to be held from March 6 to 9 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 


DRM Chairman Ruxandra Obreja will give an update on advanced DRM solutions on the first day of the conference.
