Google's radio news plans alarming: News Corp's Michael Miller

Michael Miller knows news, and he knows radio.

He is now the Executive Chairman of News Corp Australia and was previously the CEO of APN, which owns the Australlian Radio Network.

Miller is concerned by a new trend he sees happening world wide in the emerging audio space.

Google is urging radio stations to format and bookmark their audio news content in a way that will enable the world wide search engine giant to slice and dice content to deliver it to its consumers in a way that suits their preferences.

Changing media business models was the topic of a session on Day 2 of the Asia Media Summit in Delhi.

A panel of speakers looked at how business models are changing and how broadcasters can respond.


“The largest taxi company Uber, doesn’t have a fleet, the largest accommodation company AirBnB, doesn’t own any hotels. The largest news media company Facebook, doesn’t produce any content,” said David Hua from ABC Australia (pictured above).

Co-development agreement with Google for Cast-for-Audio technology

Frontier Silicon has signed a co-development agreement with Google

This agreement will see the inclusion of Google’s Cast-for-Audio technology in Frontier’s next generation connected audio solutions – due to ship in the first half of 2016.

Cast-for-Audio is an online content delivery platform which allows users to stream music services, such as Deezer, Pandora and Google Play Music, directly from the cloud to Cast-enabled speakers – all controlled by the user’s mobile device.
