Journalism awards finals for S’pore radio presenter

938LIVE’s drivetime news anchor Michelle Martin is the only radio finalist in the Diageo Women’s Empowerment Journalism Awards.

The Singaporean is up against three other women for Journalist of the Year, one of five categories.

The others are Print Story of the Year, Broadcast Story of the Year, Online Story of the Year and Photograph of the Year.

Martin was picked following the success of The WOW Club, where she interviews female academics, personalities and icons for insights into the challenges and possibilities that exist for successful women today.

In her award entry, she included an interview with Dr Kiran Bedi, a respected social activist known for her impartiality as India’s first female and highest ranking police officer.

Another highlight featured acclaimed academic Laurel Weldon, Professor of Science at Purdue University, recognised for her commitment to social justice and the co-editor for the first ever Oxford Handbook on Politics and Gender.

Over 300 journalism entries published over a two year period between January 2012 – 2014 were received from Australia, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines.

Other finalists includes journalists from Associated Press, Newsdesk Asia, People’s Daily, Women Agenda, Reuters, South China Morning Post, Time Magazine, The Sydney Morning Herald and broadcast channels including Al Jazeera and CNN.
