KBS to co-host International Radio Forum in Seoul

The International Radio Forum on ‘The Role of Media in Social Integration and Peace’ will be co-hosted by ABU member KBS in the South Korean capital, Seoul, from August 19 to 20.

It will focus on the pressing issues happening in the Korean Peninsula, and discuss the responsibilities of the media in peace building and creating a cohesive society.

KBS Global Korean Network channel, the Radio service dedicated to unification and peace in the Korean peninsula is the coordinating partner for the Forum.

While a major focus will be on current events happening on the Korean Peninsula, it will also look wider afield at situations elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific and globally where two countries, cultures or intimately-linked neighbouring nations find themselves in conflict across a common border.

The Forum will be asking how such situations develop and what are the roles of media in resolving these crises.

The ABU and KBS are arranging an array of highly qualified and expert media professionals, scholars and civil society actors to share insights honestly and pose questions such as: “What roles have media played in creating crises?” “What responsibilities do we have in resolving them? “What practical steps can media organisations take in engendering social integration and peace?”.
