Lite FM helps autistic kids showcase talents

Malaysian station Lite FM has launched a video of Umar Hasfizal, a boy living with autism, on its breakfast show to help raise funds for the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).

The video features Umar his honest rendition of Josh Groban’s You Raise Me Up

The initial idea was to collect 10,000 FB likes of the video to raise $2322 (RM10,000) for  NASOM.

Suria KLCC would match each like with a RM1 donation to NASOMto help provide a range of support services to assist people living with autism, especially children, by helping them learn how to lead a productive and fulfilling life.

The station managed to get 10,000 likes in 3 days and Suria KLCC then offered to increase their donation to $11,610 (RM50,000).

So the new target is now 50,000 likes for Umar’s video on LiteFM’s Facebook page.

It can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/litefm.com.my until September 30.

It is a part of Sunshine September 2015 initiative.

In its sixth year, Sunshine September aims to showcase the NASOM children’s various talents and to seek contributions through various fundraising activities, apart from helping more Malaysians understand about autism.

The initiative was launched last week and featured live performances by NASOM Maestro – the first autistic choir in Malaysia, and Hasfizal.
