Astro Radio gets Wedel Software's revenue and traffic management system

Malaysia’s Astro Radio has entered into a licensing agreement with Wedel Software for its MediaSales Suite to centralize and manage revenue and traffic operations across all of Astro Radio's 11 brands.

Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Multimedia, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo told the Digital Broadcasting Symposium in Kuala Lumpur:

“Digital technologies are transforming the way business are working and how information is shared and exchanged.

“It is no longer a choice, but a necessity, to deliver digital solutions if you want to compete.”

In his first speech at DBS as the new minister, Deo focused on the audience.

Malaysia’s youth radio station iM4U 107.9 FM recently declared vocal group Forteen as the winner of its inaugural Do-It-Your-Style (SIY Style) campaign.

iM4U FM is targeted at the youth and spearheads social causes, offering entertainment as well as a platform to disseminate positive messages.

Malaysia’s Star Radio Group is giving the listeners of its stations Red FM, Suria FM, 988 and Capital FM a chance to win a brand new Vespa Primavera.

On Red FM’s What’s The F Word, Suria FM’s Saat Panik’, 988’s ‘I AM VIP and Capital’s ‘My Perfect 500’, participants who win cash prizes from April 26 to May 4 will be in the running to win the scooter.

Astro Radio launches music and radio streaming app

Malaysia’s Astro Radio has launched its own music and radio streaming mobile app called Raku.

Short for Radio Aku (My Radio in Bahasa Malaysia), Raku is available in two versions - Free and Premium.

The free version offers millions of international and Malaysian songs, videos and more than 20 live radio stations and podcasts.

The app will also feature local community updates such as news, traffic and sports in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin and Tamil.

Malaysia’s Content Forum re-elects Chairman

Ahmad Izham Omar was unanimously re-elected the Chairman of Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) for a second two-year term at its 15th Annual General Meeting held on March 26.

CMCF is an industry body under the purview of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Under Izham’s leadership, CMCF registered a record year in 2014 with 624 complaints and 10 advisory enquiries from members of the public, the industry, and others in the trade and government sectors.

Malaysia: Astro group's earnings rise

Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s profits rose in the last financial year despite the soft advertising market thanks to expansion in subscriber base.

Its net profit rose 16 percent to $140.3 million (RM 519.4 million) for the financial year ended Jan 31, 2015 on 9 percent higher revenue of $1.41 billion (RM 5.23 billion).

The increase in revenue was contributed by the 7 percent rise in TV and radio subscription revenue. Overall revenue for radio rose 5.9 percent to $70.6 million (RM 261.3 million).
