Gulf News Broadcasting (GNB), the company which owns Radio 1 and Radio 2, UAE, has shut down both stations with immediate effect.

RTHK Radio 1 is a news and entertainment station of Radio Television Hong Kong targeted at over 40 year-olds.

The public broadcaster started in 1928 and operates as an independent department in the government.

Asia Radio Today spoke to Deputy Head of Radio 1, Teric Cheung, to learn more about the station.

BBC World Service targets younger audience

The BBC World Service is to target younger listeners by offering an international version of the broadcaster's popular domestic news show, according to The Guardian.

Newsbeat is an award-winning 15 minute news sequence that has been running on the UK national channel BBC Radio 1 since 1973.

The show will now be adapted in several Asian and African languages as part of a $13.4 million (8million) attempt to win a younger audience.

'Pioneering' men lauded by RTHK Radio 1

Hong Kong broadcaster RTHK's inspirational series 'Hong Kong Pioneers' is underway for a second year.

This year Cantonese channel Radio 1 will share the experiences of the territory's pioneering men after the project received rave reviews for profiling dozens of successful women last year.

The programme, hosted by Shelley Lee Lai-kuen and Au Ka-lun, invites 30 men of all ages and backgrounds to share their successes, so as to inspire others.
