First meeting of Mirchi music awards jury

India's 32 station network Radio Mirchi has started screening hundreds of songs as it prepares to shortlist the top five in each category of the 6th edition of Mirchi Music Awards.

A screening panel comprising some well known faces and voices from Indian music and film industry met in Mumbai recently.

They include Akbar Sami, Abhishek Ray, Shibani Kashyap, Bishwadeep Chatterjee, Jitu Shankar, Anand Sharma, Abhijeet Sawant, Sona Mahapatra, Kannan (K) Mohan and Vidya Shah.

Mirchi gives away dress worn by Bollywood queen

Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, Mumbai gave away a dress worn by Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit in the new hindi film Dedh Ishqiya (One and a half Love Story).

A romantic comic thriller, the film marks Madhuri’s comeback in a lead role after many years. Once the most famous actress in Bollywood, she had moved to the US and started a family there.

A pun on the title of the film, the contest - called ‘Dead Ishqiya’ (Dead Love Story) asked listeners to share funny incidents from their life where a potential romantic episode finished even before it could start.

Mirchi hires new marketing head for brand properties

Former Radio Mirchi marketing manager Rishikar Krishna is returning to the company to take responsibility for many its largest brand properties.

He's been named Marketing Head for ENIL Mirchi properties.

Krishna, who previously spent seven years with the Indian radio network, will report to Chief Strategy Officer Mahesh Shetty.

He rejoins from the trendy shoe retailer Skechers USA, where he was responsible for creating brand awareness in India.

Krishna will manage the Mirchi Music Awards and Mirchi Top 20 as well as other large intellectual properties.

Radio Mirchi quarter on quarter revenues up a notch

Second quarter revenues at Radio Mirchi's owner climbed just 1.5 percent compared with the first quarter.

Entertainment Network (India) Ltd (ENIL) saw total revenues of US$13.63 million (Rs86.55 crore*) between July and September.

But the figure was 12.3 percent higher than the second quarter last year.

Quarterly net profit grew 59.4 percent year on year at US$2.58 million (Rs 16.4 crore).

Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) stood at  US$3.99 million (Rs. 25.3 crores), up 33.6 percent.

Idea Celluar signs on for Mirchi Music Awards

Indian mobile operator Idea Cellular has signed on once again to sponsor the Mirchi Music Awards, the music industry awards ceremony put on by the radio industry.

The partnership will see Idea be involved in all seven editions of the Awards, which run in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telgu, Malayalam, and Bangla languages.

Established in 2008, the Mirchi Music Awards recognizes and honors the crème de la crème of the music industry.

Initially in Hindi, the awards were extended to the South in 2010, followed by Bangla in 2012 and Marathi in 2013.

Radio Mirchi goes non-stop for world's biggest dance fest

India's Radio Mirchi is helping listeners dance till they drop during the ten days of the Hindu festival Sharad Navatri.

The period is being celebrated with much zeal across India between October 5 and 13.

In the state of Gujarat, where a traditional group dance - The Garba - originated, Radio Mirchi's stations have tied-up with venues in each city so listeners can party to the best Gujurati and Bollywood tracks.

More than 100,000 people are expected at the World's Biggest Garba event in the city of Vadodara, which the station is supporting.

When India's largest radio groups imagined the year 2013, many saw only golden opportunities, like the potential of becoming quasi-national networks operating in almost a hundred cities.

Some predicted they'd be running more than one brand in major markets and networking different formats across large regions of the country.

These opportunities are all on the table in the third phase of private FM licensing which will see commercial radio expand to hundreds of Indian cities and towns for the first time.

Radio Mirchi listeners get monsoon pick-up

For a fifth monsoon season in a row, India's Radio Mirchi has helped its listeners brave the heavy rains by offering a free pick-up and drop service.

Under the name Lift Kara De, hundreds of fans of Mirchi's Mumbai station avoided the long wait for taxis and auto rickshaws - which, just like in many cities, mysteriously disappear when it starts to rain.

Together with Toyota and a local rainwear company, the station deployed a fleet of Radio Mirchi-branded Toyota Etios Liva cars to come to their rescue.

Eight listeners to India's Radio Mirchi have got to meet their Bollywood hero Shahrukh Khan.

The once in a lifetime opportunity was organised around the new movie Chennai Express, an action comedy starring the man nicknamed King Khan, which is on target to break Indian box office records.

Khan has starred in more than 75 Bollywood films and was described by the Los Angeles Times as the world's biggest movie star.

He's also been nicknamed Brand SRK due to his various brand endorsements including Pepsi, Nokia and TAG Heuer.

Mirchi relives golden days of Indian cinema

Bollywood celebrities Dimple Kapadia and Akshay Kumar are helping bolster Radio Mirchi's night-time retro offering.

The station has brought back 'Agar Tum Na Hote!' for Season 2 hosted by RJ Anmol.

The show relives the golden era of Indian cinema through the eyes of actors and other renowned film industry creatives including filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehr, screenwriter Prasoon Joshi and playback singer Sonu Nigam.
