Radio Namaskar’s problem with BECIL transmitters

Indian community radio station Radio Namaskar has alleged that a transmitter it received one year ago from the government’s Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) has not been working since then, reports Radioandmusic.com.

The Odisha based station broadcasts on 90.4 FM from the town of Konark and claims that BECIL is making use of its monopoly as a supplier to community radio stations.

According to the station’s Chairperson N.A.Shah Ansari, when he took up the issue with BECIL they took the transmitter for repair but returned it in the same condition.

He alleged that the transmitters meant for community stations are picked up from China via Nepal, where they are three times cheaper than in India.

He claimed that BECIL just puts its stamps on them and lacks the mechanism to repair them.

The station has shared the issue with the Information and Broadcasting ministry, but no serious action has been taken yet.
