In a conference workshop titled Socialising Radio, international broadcast and management trainer Steve Ahern told Radio Asia delegates,“the 24 hour news cycle is now  about 24 minutes… everything is faster and more social, we must adapt to the new environment.”

Radio reacts to Malaysia Airlines' latest tragedy

Malaysian radio stations were quick to react to overnight news that Malaysia Airlines MH17 had crashed over Ukraine - almost certainly shot down.

The jet, travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was carrying 298 passengers and crew when it suddenly exploded, killing all on board.

The two sides in Ukraine's civil conflict have accused each other of shooting the jet down with a missile.

Radio stations doubled their efforts to deliver the news that the country's national carrier had been struck by a second tragedy in less than five months.

RadioAsia2014: Generate revenue from new media

As advertisers increasingly spend more on digital advertising (web/mobile), radio networks in Asia must generate ideas that work on multiple platforms, delegates at RadioAsia 2014 were told on Thursday.

In a workshop discussing ways to generate revenue from new media, two radio experts described the changes that have taken place in the way listeners consume media.

Australian radio consultant Steve Ahern told attendees in Colombo, Sri Lanka, that media consumption had multiplied thanks to the use of multiple devices (radios, smartphones and tablets).
