Spotify comes to India

Spotify, the world’s leading music streaming service, is now available in India with all-new features to match Indian music fans’ personal tastes.

The number of active internet users in the world’s second most populous country is estimated at over 400 million and it is the fastest growing market globally for mobile app

Spotify’s India launch follows the company’s recent expansion across MENA and South East Asia, bringing the total number of Spotify markets to 79 with 207m users, including 96m subscribers, globally.

Frontier is the approved Certification Partner for Spotify Connect

Spotify UK's 'best year ever'

Spotify UK has filed its annual company return, revealing some of its European revenue sources.

Company Director Barry McCarthy said: "2015 was a big year for Spotify... in many ways it was our best year ever."

He said the company has become the "number one pure play music service."

Total revenue increased from £ 159 million to £ 187 million, due mainly to increasing subscriptions.

He notes that the majority of new users of the service are now signing up on mobules not desktops.

Spotify makes $2 billion but fails to turn a profit

It may be the biggest music streaming company in the world but while Spotify's revenue has increased by 80%, it remains in the red.
Spotify made $2 billion in revenue, almost twice the growth rate that the company saw in 2014, and while it’s a leader in on-line music streaming, Spotify has never turned a profit.

At Radio Days Europe, BBC Radio 1 Music Director Chris Price (right) faced off against Spotify UK Chief David Cooper in a session called 'Let the Music Play.'

Price made an impassioned defence of humans choosing music for radio stations, and cited the high ratings of BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1 Xtra as indicators of the success of that policy, with millions of listeners tuning in each week.
