Symphony 924 announces Young Talents Project 2017 winners

 

Mediacorp Singapore’s classical music station Symphony 92.4 has announced the winners of its Young Talents Project 2017.

The contest, in its sixth edition, is a search for the country’s next budding musical prodigy and since its launch in 2012, it has grown into a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents as well as promoting the arts from a young age.

Participants competed under two categories –  Junior for musicians or vocalists aged 7 to 12 years and Senior for musicians or vocalists aged 13 to 17 years.

10 finalists were shortlisted after two rounds of judging and performed to a live audience at the historical Victoria Concert Hall on Saturday.

15-year old Zhang Yifan Jem was the Overall Grand Winner as well as the Senior Category Winner.  She won an all-expenses paid trip to Vienna, Austria, for a fully immersive classical music experience.

Renee Yadav, 10, won in the Junioer Category, Jarell Tang, 13, won for Best Stage Presence and Joshuanne Yeh, 8, was the Viewer’s Choice winner.

The contest was judged by Jason Lai – Principal Conductor of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at NUS and Associate Conductor with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Low Shao Ying – a professional classical pianist, composer, songwriter and music arranger and Nancy Yuen – Honorary Artistic Director of Singapore Lyric Opera and the Head of Vocal Studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
