A group 16 broadcasters from around the South East Asian region this week were in Kuala Lumpur for a three day Smartphone workshop, run by the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and the Tun Abdul Razak Communications and Information Training Centre (IPPTAR).

Participants learnt how to shoot video, frame shots and compose pictures, choose good lighting, and use their phone apps to best advantage. They also learnt about social media usage and how to file smartphone reports to many social media platforms.

“Anyone can be a video journalist these days, because of smart phones,” said VTV reporter Fan, at a course in Hanoi.

A group of Vietnam Television reporters today learnt about the new tools of reporting.

“Am I about to lose my job?” asked one course participant, but she was assured that jobs are safe, although journalists must now learn the latest skills to stay up to date in their job.

“I learnt that I can have my own channel and my own audience, but so can everyone else,” said course participant Thuy.

Popular Indian morning host launches RJ training

A workshop for budding radio radio jockeys (RJs) in India is being arranged by acclaimed morning show jock Harsh Singh.

The Radio 101 session - to be held in Mumbai on December 14 - will groom participants for an exciting new career in radio.

The training has been timed for the predicted roll-out of Phase III of private radio licensing that will see 839 FM frequencies auctioned off, creating hundreds of new jobs of RJs.
