Asia Pop 40 to air across China

Asia’s only syndicated radio chart countdown programme, Asia Pop 40, will be broadcast across China, in Mandarin, from this weekend.

Yuan Yu Radio network based in Shanghai’s terrestrial and internet radio networks will air the three-hour weekly-syndicated chart show twice per week.

Yuan Yu Radio operates 153 stations across China.

The launch marks the debut of the Mandarin version of Asia Pop 40, which will be hosted by radio personality and singer-songwriter Max Lim.

The Mandarin version of the franchise will be tailored to Chinese music tastes, focusing more on Asian artists than international music.

Yuan Yu Radio’s General Manager of Programming, Ken Chen, commented: “The feedback we have received for Asia Pop 40 from our affiliates has been very positive and we can see the potential of Asia Pop 40 as a show that will be very liked by our audiences all over China. We have a huge younger audience and we believe they will love Max and Asia Pop 40. We wanted a show that is more relevant for our listeners than the imported chart shows – the ratings results in other markets prove that Asia Pop 40 has struck the right chord with Asian music lovers.”

Singapore’s EON Media Group produces Asia Pop 40, which currently airs in 30 markets across Southeast Asia since its launch in July 2013.

Its CEO & Executive Producer Rob Graham said: “We are thrilled that AP40 will soon be heard across China on the Yuan Yu Network. I believe we have found a great partner to help us navigate our way through China.”
