Astro Radio launches two new brands for its 15.4 million weekly listeners

GfK’s Wave 2 Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) 2017 survey reported that radio listenership amongst individuals aged 10 and above in Peninsular Malaysia reached 19.7 million weekly listeners.

15.4 million, or 78.1%, consume Astro Radio brands, making Astro Radio the operator with the highest number of listeners.

ERA FM remains the top radio brand in the country bringing in 6.3 million weekly listeners, with Sinar FM coming in second at 4.7 million weekly listeners. THR Gegar is the No.1 radio brand in the East Coast with 2.8 million weekly listeners, while hitz fm is the top English brand with 2.1 million weekly listeners. In the Chinese segment, MY FM takes the lead with 2.2 million weekly listeners and THR Raaga is the most preferred Tamil radio brand with 1.4 million weekly listeners.

In Sabah and Sarawak, Astro Radio leads with 1.13 million weekly listeners which represents 85.4% of the radio listening audience in these states.

Astro Radio’s digital fan base has also grown tremendously with 4.7 million Monthly Unique Website Visitors and over 14 million fans on social media.

Astro Radio has also announced the launch of two new brands – Zayan and goXUAN.

Jake said: “Zayan and goXUAN are our latest brands for a new generation of listeners who are trendsetters and influencers in the digital and social media space. In August 2017 alone, over three million Malaysians tuned in to their favourite radio via streaming. This makes it absolutely crucial for Zayan and goXUAN to be digital-led radio brands for the digital natives to plug in through various interactive platforms to drive talkability and social engagement.”    

Zayan, the first Malaysian radio brand for modern Muslims, aspires to serve this growing community by delivering music, content and dialogue that reverberates among them.  Modern Malaysian Muslims can tune in to Zayan by downloading its mobile app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store soon. Zayan will also be available on the radio in Klang Valley (104.9FM), Alor Star (98.1FM), Ipoh (106.4FM), Malacca (98.9FM), Johor Bahru (92.8FM), and Kuantan (91.6FM).

goXUAN goes where the trendsetting Chinese Gen Z are making their mark. Unlike any other radio brand in Malaysia, goXUAN is visually-led. Astro Radio has built a state of art live broadcast studio from which the brand will stream live entertainment content via its digital platforms throughout the day. The goXUAN mobile app is available for download via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It is also available over the radio airwaves via 88.9FM in Klang Valley and 107.6FM in Penang.
