Sri Lanka’s Hiru FM held its Golden Film Awards at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo on Saturday.

Commercial films screened in 2012 and 2013 and 100 short films produced during the same period were competing for honours.

Many local and Bollywood stars including Vivek Oberoi, Bipasha Basu, Neha Dupia, Anil Kapoor and Sunil Shetty attended the event.

Famous Bollywood vocalist Alka Yagnik also performed some of her biggest hits for the audience.

The Hiru Golden Film Awards were conceptualised around the time of the launch of the Asia Broadcasting’s (ABC) five radio stations Hiru FM, Sha FM, Sun FM, Gold FM and Sooriyan FM in the late 1990s.

According to CEO Raymond De Silva, the awards hope to elevate Sri Lankan cinema to a new level.
