iM4U FM holds DIY music contest

Malaysia’s youth radio station iM4U 107.9 FM recently declared vocal group Forteen as the winner of its inaugural Do-It-Your-Style (SIY Style) campaign.

iM4U FM is targeted at the youth and spearheads social causes, offering entertainment as well as a platform to disseminate positive messages.

The campaign’s objective was to bring a fresh perspective to the Malaysian music scene.

20 participating artistes performed across genres and switch-ups like rock-pop, experimental reggae and hip hop ballads on the station for two weeks from the March 23 to April 3.

Five finalists including Liyana Fizi, Hani & Zue, Ewal, Diandra Ajunadi and Forteen performed live at a mall in Shah Alam over the weekend where the winners were chosen by public votes and a panel of judges featuring home-grown artistes — Juwita SuwitoTaja and Loque.

The top three artists won cash prizes of $1403 (RM 5000), $842 (RM 3000) and $561 (RM 2000) respectively and contributed their winnings to selected charitable homes.

Other artistes who took part in the campaign included Hazman, Ippo Hafiz, Bunkface, Amir Jahari, Azhael, Faizul Sany, Car Crash Heart, Tilu, Dualiti, RJ, An Honest Mistake, #TAG, Ziabella, Nastia and AHKB.

Izzue Islam, one of the members of FORTEEN, who performed a cover of Sheila Majid’s Sinaran, said: “We are truly grateful to be part of the first DIY Style Campaign as it allows us to challenge our creativity against other talented local artistes. We are also incredibly excited that we got to contribute to the community through this campaign.”

“We are thrilled to be able to provide a unique avenue like this in the musical platform, where local artistes can showcase their musical talent while embracing the spirit of volunteerism,” said Kartini Kamalul Ariffin, Director, iM4U FM.
