Indian minister inaugurates National Community Radio workshop

India’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitely inaugurated the fifth National Sammelan for Community Radio Stations in Delhi today, according to Indiantelevision.com.

The three-day workshop is a platform for Community Radio Operators, policy makers, ministries, the UN and other stakeholders to exchange ideas.

It will discuss the role of community radio in promoting learning, livelihoods and agriculture, sustainability, content sharing and programming for development and facilitating access to justice for marginalized communities.

The event will also see the release of a compilation of inspiring stories of community radios from across the country and the presentation of National Community Radio Awards.

So far, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has issued 409 licenses to for community radio stations in the country out of which 179 stations have become operational.
