Media Prima predicts a “challenging” 2014

Malaysia’s Media Prima Berhad expects 2014 to be another challenging year for advertising revenue, the company’s Managing Director told local media on Wednesday.

At a press briefing following the company’s annual general meeting (AGM), MD Amrin Awaluddin said he hoped events like the FIFA World Cup, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and Visit Malaysia Year will help cushion the impact of any potential downturn.

The company says it is confident that it will remain resilient and achieve continuous growth in FY 2014, reported the New Straits Times.

Media Prima Radio – Fly FM, one FM and Hot FM – saw revenues rise 16 percent in 2013 to $22.1 million (RM 72.9 million) while Media Prima Digital witnessed a 35 percent increase.

The company says all of its platforms – apart from print – saw revenue growth.

Media Prima announced a profit after tax and minority interests (PATAMI) for financial year 2013 of RM214.2 million against RM209 million the previous year.

Group revenues grew to RM2.04 billion compared to RM2.01 billion in 2012.

Johan Jaaffar, Chairman of Media Prima said, “We are satisfied with the Group’s performance given the fact that last year was a difficult one.” He added, “By any standard, we have achieved better than expected results.”
