Media Prima Radio listening down – Nielsen

Malaysia’s Media Prima Radio Networks saw listenership fall in the most recent Nielsen audience research.

The figures were released publicly in an investor presentation for the parent company’s first half 2014 financial results.

According to diary research carried out in April this year, Media Prima’s Chinese station ONE FM saw a three percent increase in listenership to 946,000.

But Malay station Hot FM, which makes up almost 70 percent of total listenership for the company saw its audience fall around 13 percent to 3.42 million.

English station Fly FM grew a notch to 376,000 (up from 375,000) listeners.

The other main subscriber to the Nielsen Radio Audience Measurement is Astro Radio, Malaysia’s largest commercial radio network.

Astro released its figures shortly after the final data was sent to stations, showing it had achieved its highest share in almost a decade.

Another of Malaysia’s main commercial radio players Star Radio Group no longer participates in the Nielsen research.

Earlier this year, the company called for the inclusion of digital listening and digital diaries in the research methodology.
