Media Prima Radio Q3 earnings steady

Malaysia’s Media Prima’s three radio stations saw net year-to-date advertising revenues fall by one percent, according to a financial statement by the company.

Figures for Q1, 2 and 3 showed revenues of $15.6 million (RM 52.3 million)

But profit after tax from radio fell by 11 percent year-on-year, from to $6.7 million (RM 22.4 million).

Separate figures from Nielsen showsed Chinese station ONE FM increased its portion of radio adspend rise 16 percent to 8.97 percent.  Malay station Hot FM and the English language Fly FM saw their adspend shares fall.

As a group Media Prima saw an 11 percent rise in year-to-date net revenue at $329 million (RM1.1 billion).

Profit after tax fell 30 percent though to $31.9 million (RM106.7 million).

Only Media Prima’s digital business saw an increase in revenue year-to-date 2014, compared to last year.

Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar, Chairman of Media Prima said, “The Group will continue to remain resilient despite a period of intense competition, market uncertainties and an increasingly challenging operating environment.”
