Singapore broadcaster Mediacorp has recognised one of its Chinese language radio journalists at the company’s news awards.
The prize for Feature Story of the Year went to Lin Hui from the Mandarin news team at a ceremony at the city’s St Regis hotel on Thursday.
Lin was the reporter and producer of a feature about the legacy of legendary Cantonese storyteller Lee Dai Sor.
Lee became a household name on Singaporean cable radio channel Rediffusion and Malaysian radio stations in the 1950s and ’60s.
But his career was cut short in 1979 by the government’s decision to end all Chinese dialect radio programmes and concentrate on Mandarin.
The award was one of six handed out by Mediacorp to journalists from its television, print, online and radio divisions.
Mediacorp’s CEO Shaun Seow said: “Living in a digital age inundated with information coming from all corners 24/7, the discerning audience will appreciate good journalism which empowers people to sieve the gems from the sand. I am confident that my editorial colleagues will rise to the occasion and provide relevant and timely news across all our platforms so that news from MediaCorp continues to be read, watched and listened to, faithfully.”
The company also announced that Walter Fernandez, current Editor of Mediacorp’s newspaper TODAY, had been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the MediaCorp group of companies overseeing news and current affairs production across all four platforms.
