Mirchi music awards jury meets to select winners

India’s 32-station network Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM hosted the grand jury meet for the 7th edition of the Mirchi Music Awards on Wednesday.

This year the award ceremony will be themed around seven sins to celebrate seven years of sinful musicality, according to the station.

The jury features well-known names from Indian film and music industry.

These include singer Kavita Krishnamurthy – who is the jury Chairperson, filmmakers Ramesh Sippy, Subhash Ghai, Sudhir Mishra, Madhur Bhandarkar, music directors Bappi Lahiri, Anu Malik, Shankar Mahadevan, Lalit Pandit, Louiz Banks and singers Suresh Wadkar, Shailendra Singh, Talat Aziz, Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam, Ila Arun, Pankaj Udhas, Anuradha Paudwal, Himesh Reshammiya, Udit Narayan, Raju Singh and Roop Kumar Rathod.

The members met in Mumbai to finalise nominees and to decide on the winners, who will be announced on February 26.

Announcing the awards, Mahesh Shetty, Chief Operating Officer, ENIL, the company behind Radio Mirchi, said: “Thanks to the jury members who have stood by us and made sure the best music talent is recognised and honoured year after year.”

Kavita Krishnamurthy, Jury Chairperson said: “So far in the celluloid only the actors were honoured, finally, there is a recoginition for the musicians as well.”

Jury member Irshad Kamil commented: “This year the selection process was more streamlined. We have been very patient in listening to all nominated song and then made our decisions.”

Ila Arun said: “This year we saw so many new talents and it was a very tough decision to pick one winner in each category.”
