More than $214,000 raised for Chennai Flood victims

Mediacorp Singapore’s Tamil station Oli 96.8FM has collected more than $214,000 through its donation drive to raise funds for those affected by the flood in Chennai.

Chennai, the capital of the southern Indian state of Tamilnadu was brought to a standstill following devastating floods in the first week of December.

Oli FM had partnered Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA) and Singapore Red Cross Society in organizing its donation drive.

Members of the public made their donations at the temporary booth set up by LISHA, along the pedestrian walkway outside of Little India Arcade, Serangoon Road.

Oli 96.8FM ran call-to-action trailers on air to encourage viewers and listeners to play a part in aiding those affected by contributing any preferred amount at the booth.

The donations were counted at The Singapore Red Cross Society.

This initiative was also supported by Hindu Endowments Board (HEB), Narpani Pearavai, Indian Restaurant Association Singapore (IRAS), National University of Singapore Tamil Language Society (NUSTLS) and other Indian organisations.
