MY FM brings Silent Garba to Gujarat

Garba is an Indian folk dance performed in the state of Gujarat during Navratri, a celebration lasting nine nights, in which the dancers honour Durga, the feminine form of divinity.

Though music and dance remain the highlight of season, the government has imposed a noise ban post 12 am.

To help people dance the night away without causing any interruption, MY FM came up the concept of Silent Garba.

As a part of this, music is played through a console and all the Garba dancers are given headphones which are connected to the console via Bluetooth and this goes on till late in the night.

Commenting on this initiative, Harrish Bhatia, ‎Chief Executive Officer, MY FM, said: “We know how much the people of Gujarat love their Garba and how much they love to dance the night away. I am really happy that we could come in and provide a solution for them.”

Viplove Gupte, Chief Programming Officer, MY FM, said: “Initially when we approached the societies with the proposal, we met up with a lot of scepticism as people were not sure about the concept. Staunch garba loyalist also scoffed saying, this is against the spirit of Garba and without the music blaring from loudspeakers there will be no garba but when we reached out to the elders of the society, they welcomed us with open arms.”
