New York Festivals 2019 Radio Awards announces winners

 

World-wide since 1982, New York Festivals Radio Awards announced the 2019 winners.

New York Festivals Radio Awards Grand Jury awarded a wide spectrum of radio content submitted from 35 countries around the globe. Award-winning, podcasts and audiobooks, live events, dramas and documentaries, breaking news coverage, and multi-genre music specials were celebrated at the 2019 New York Festivals Radio Awards ceremony in Manhattan. Content creators from prominent networks and production companies in Asia earned a total of 1 Gold trophy, 2 Silver, 10 Bronze and 32 Finalist Certificates. 

South Korea

Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) was honoured with a Gold trophy for “The 70th Anniversary of JEJU 4.3 Docudram Trilogy 'Suni-Samchon' (Best Drama Special) and a Silver for “Children’s Day Gift in Celebration of 2018 Inter-Korean Summit 'Spring in My Hometown' in the National or International Affairs category.

Busan English Broadcasting Foundation’s “Eunsu's 17 lost years” (Human Rights) earned a Bronze trophy.

India

Indian entries won a total of five Bronze and 20 Finalist Certificates.

Red FM won a Bronze in three categories – Station Promotion, Station ID and Best Innovative Show, along with five Finalist Certificates.

Big FM was the other Bronze winner in the Best Sound and Best Special Event categories. It also won five finalist nominations.

Radio Mirchi won three Finalist Certificates while 104.8 Ishq FM, Club FM and Magic 106.4 FM had two finalists each and Radio Mango had one Finalist Certificate.

Hong Kong

Radio Television Hong Kong’s News reporting won a Bronze for “Forgotten Little Victims” (Best Coverage Of Ongoing News Story) in addition to another Bronze in the Best Student Artist Interview/Performance category. The network was also recognised with four Finalist Certificates.

Taiwan

Radio Taiwan International won a Bronze for “Migrant Workers in Taiwan #MeToo” in the Social Issues category and a Finalist Certificate.

United Arab Emirates

Malayalam station Club FM won a Silver, a Bronze and four Finalist Certificates.

Bangladesh

Radio Masala won three Finalist Certificates.

RTÉ Ireland was honoured with the prestigious title of Broadcaster of Year for the third consecutive year.

Almost Tangible, UK earned the title of Production Company of the Year and the distinguished Grand Award for “Macbeth” (Best Digital Drama Program). The award-winning podcast was recorded live on location at Glamis Castle with a cast and crew of 25. Macbeth also earned 4 Gold trophies for Best Digital Drama Program, Best Director, Best Sound, and Drama Podcast.

ESPN Films 30 for 30 Podcasts was recognized with the Grand Award for 30 for 30 Podcasts: “Juiced” “All In: Sparking the Poker Boom” and “The Six Who Sat” (Narrative/Documentary Podcast) highlighted compelling people and iconic events in sports history. The series also earned a Gold trophy forNarrative/Documentary Podcast and Bronze trophy for Sports Broadcast.

Podcast entrants received Gold trophies including CBC’s Serialized Podcasts “Someone Knows Something: Kerrie Brown” and “Uncover: Escaping NXIVM”.  Additional Podcasts entrants earning Gold include BBC, Al Jazeera Media Network, The Age newspaper, Melbourne, Australia, NASA/JPL, Radio New Zealand, TBC Audio, Vox Media, and University of Wollongong. 

New York Festivals with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) honours programs highlighting global concerns of interest to the UN. Since 1990, the UNPI convenes a panel to honour radio broadcasting that best exemplifies the ideas and goals of the United Nations and their selections are awarded the United Nations Department of Public Information Award. 2019 Recipients: “Just To Have Had You” (CBC Radio) UNDPI Gold Award, “Impossible Dream Comes True” (WSHU.org) UNDPI Silver, and “Dark Snow & Emma” (RTÉ Radio 1) UNDPI Bronze Award.
