Q1 Asia radio revenues steady

Asia Pacific radio advertising revenues held steady in the first quarter of 2013, according to the latest Nielsen Global Adview Pulse report.

Radio registered a 0.1 percent increase across the region, compared to cinema advertising which fell 13.4 percent. Magazines dropped 6.4 percent while newspapers declined 0.8 percent.

Internet advertising continues to benefit from large increases in buyers’ budgets across Asia, rising 33.2 percent in Q1 2013 compared to the same period last year. Television and outdoor also continued to climb.

Nielsen says overall Asia Pacific saw a 5.8 percent increase in total advertising spend, with China, the Philippines and Indonesia all seeing roughly 20 percent increases.

Japan saw a 1.1 per cent dip, the only country to see advertising revenues turn negative in the quarter.

As an aside, the report shows that radio advertising is on a major growth spurt in Africa.  Year-on-year, revenues rose 12.2 percent in the first quarter.

The industry has also seen a 10.3 percent rise in South America.  Internationally, radio saw a 0.2 percent drop in revenues, according to Nielsen.
