Radio Republik Indonesia turns 75

Indonesia’s public broadcasting agency Radio Republik Indonesia is celebrating its 75th anniversary this month.

The station was established on September 11, 1945, by founding figures, Mohammad Yusuf Ronodipuro, Abdulrachman Saleh, Maladi, and Brigjen Suhardi.

RRI offers a maximum of four main stations in a region. One of them is a national simulcast. Three other services are transmitted locally, producing local programmes as well as relaying programmes from RRI central station in Jakarta.

The broadcaster commemorated the occasion in a simple way with strict Covid-19 health protocol.

A Ketoprak performance with Kirun was one of the special programs leading to the peak of the commemoration. Ketoprak is a theatrical genre of Java featuring actors who may also sing to the accompaniment of the gamelan. It draws its stories from Javanese history and romances.

RRI Supervisory Board member Dwi Hernuningsih also took part in a Ketoprak entitled “Sekartaji Bakul Jamu”.

There was also a Jazz Nite which presented a number of performers such as Madame & Toean, Citra Scholastika and Payung Teduh.

The highlight of the event was a Torch Ignition for Tri Prasetya RRI on September 11. This event featured Rossa, Yudika, Ike Nurjanah, Didik Ninik Towok, Andi Rizka Fadilah Malaranggeng, and accompanying musicians: Aminoto Kosin and the RRI Choir.

President Director of RRI, M Rohanudin, in his speech virtually said that the commemoration of the 75th Radio Day was an important moment to recall the determination contained in Tri Prasetya RRI as well as to make changes in the way of working. “The theme of the 75th anniversary of Radio Republik Indonesia Rise for Advanced Indonesia, is a message of morale and encouragement for RRI to continuing to strengthen the spirit of togetherness and dedication for the advancement of the nation, as well as inviting all elements of the Indonesian nation to jointly face the Covid-pandemic.
