Radio technician goes on shooting rampage at Thai station

Three people died after a gunman went on a rampage at the Thailand Radio station in Phitanulok last Wednesday.

Operating at 1026 AM and 94.25 FM, NNT3 is one of several regional radio stations operated by the country’s National Broadcasting Service.

The gunman, Win Sonsuk, 59, was a transmitter engineer at the station.

Armed with two handguns, he shot dead three staff members — Sanit Butmangkul, station director, Jirawut Sumetthepanan, a senior electrician, and Phumisaran Phanphum, a senior technician.

Prung Chandaeng, another radio transmission technician, was shot and wounded.

Sonsuk, who has been arrested, apparently waited for the police to arrive after committing the crime.

He later re-enacted the incident for the police and said that he didn’t intend to kill the station director, who confronted him after he witnessed the first two victims being shot. They got into a scuffle and Sonsuk stabbed him with a knife before shooting him.

He told the police he shot the victims because of issues at work.

Sonsuk has been charged with murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
