RTHK announces winners of Top Story contest

RTHK Radio 3 recently announced the winners of its ‘Hong Kong’s Top Story’ competition held in association with South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Eight contestants were honoured in the Junior and Senior categories in a ceremony held at the Hong Kong Central Library in December.

In the Junior Category for 12 to 17 year-olds, Jessica Chan won the first prize for her story ‘172’ while the second prize went to Catherine Wang and Rachel Ho was the third prize winner.

Kimberly Ng was the creative prize winner for her entry ‘Atypical Reincarnation’.

In the Senior Category, first prize went to Christopher Wang for ‘The Dreamers’, Jonathan Johnson won the second prize and Roger Rengold was the third prize winner.

The creative prize winner in this category was Edmund Price for his story ‘ Lennonism’.

The winners received a book collection and the winning entries will be published in SCMP and broadcast on RTHK Radio 3.

The awards were presented by Young Post Editor Susan Ramsay and Assistant Director of Broadcasting (Radio & Corporate Programming) Lisa Liu.

This year, the theme of the competition was ‘Reborn’ and all submitted works had to be relevant to Hong Kong in terms of subject matter, characters or setting.

Appreciating the effort made by the participants, Assistant Director of Broadcasting (Radio & Corporate Programming) Lisa Liu said: “We are glad to discover a lot of very skilful writers. Good writing means a lot of hard work.”

At the event, lawyer-writer Jason Ng shared his thoughts about English writing in Hong Kong and Jonathan Douglas from Radio 4 read out parts from the winning pieces.

On air, Angie Man presented a special programme on highlights of the award presentation ceremony and interviews with the winners.
