Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre wants 10-minute Mandarin radio plays

The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is organising the inaugural Gimme Ten! 2021 Radio Playwriting Competition (Mandarin).

The contest, which aims to nurture homegrown talent, offers a chance for budding scriptwriters to come up with 10-minute radio plays which will air on 96.3 Hao FM.

Submissions have to be in Mandarin, with a Singapore focus, in any including but not limited to short stories, poetry, essays and commentaries. Entries must be submitted by March 15.

Selected participants will attend workshops, on “The Fundamentals of Dramatic Writing”, “Radio Play Making” and “Playwrights Essential – A basic Legal Primer Workshop”, by Chong TzeChien, Li Xie and Wang Liansheng.

Shortlisted participants will be announced on April 6 on SCCC's website and will also be notified via e-mail.

These participants will then go on to write a 10-min radio play each, with a Singapore angle, with no more than 5 characters.

10 scripts will be selected for the final round of competition who will receive further mentorship and will be turned into actual radio plays and aired on 96.3 Hao FM.

Three winners will be chosen by a panel of judge and listeners can vote for the “Audience Choice Award”.

Results will be announced on Aug 13. For details, visit the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre website.
