Theme for RadioAsia 2019 – Radio All Around Us: More than just a medium

This year’s RadioAsia will seek to redefine radio in the modern age, looking back at its achievements and also forward to its potentials.

Radio has now been with us for more than a century and as new technologies have emerged, it has adapted, changed and continued to thrive. What makes it so resilient? Why do so many millions still need what it offers today? What are the constants that make Radio so enduring?

RadioAsia 2019 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from October 29 to 31 will dig deep into the mystery of the allure of radio. Experts from around the region and the world will bring their experience, thoughts and theories to the forum to answer the key question: “What makes Radio so enduringly special?”

The three-day conference will bring together leading radio professionals, policymakers, communication specialists, manufacturers, suppliers, and academics from across the Asia-Pacific region, and elsewhere in the world.

This year’s RadioAsia hosts are Bangladesh Betar. As one of the Asia-Pacific region’s most energetic broadcasting organisations, they continue to build radio services for multiple uses – as entertainment and information, for education to poor and rural populations, for building social cohesion and for communicating in times of looming environmental crises and natural disasters. The conference will provide opportunities for delegates to see their progress and challenges and to ask: What are they doing we can learn from? What can we try?

For example, how do public service broadcasters in particular ensure not only that we remain relevant and listened too, but that we continue to serve the many and various needs of our listeners, whether on air or online?

Whether you are a national network with a staff of thousands or a small and struggling radio station with only a handful of people, there is an answer for everyone if we share and communicate.
