UFM DJs go live on streaming app

DJs of Singapore’s Chinese station UFM 100.3 are live on popular streaming app Rings Live.

They are using the platform to show their other talents like baking, singing and comedy along with sharing their personal tastes in music, movies and food with fans.

The content on the app has been in the pipeline since November, when Singapore Press Holdings, Singapore-headquartered entertainment company mm2 Asia and Singapore-based live streaming app company Rings.TV decided to collaborate exclusively with one another to rebrand, re-design and market the Livestream App and related services over the next six months.

The mobile application, which was launched two years ago, has been downloaded by 165,000 users.

Its live broadcasts provide a two-way connection between the audience and the radio DJs – who, along with other station staff- also search for talented individuals to groom into Rings Live broadcasters.

So far, they have created 80 broadcasters, including chefs, make-up artists, photographers, musicians and even a cat.

According to DJ Carine Ang, who is also the station’s programme director, it is a way for listeners to see a different side of the DJs.

DJ Chang Cheng Yao, who goes live at 11pm on weeknights, enjoys the immediacy of engaging with audiences who leave real-time comments during the show.

Speaking to The Straits Times he said: “It feels like the audience is seated right in front of me. I can chit-chat with them and they will reply by leaving comments. Sometimes I play deduction games and audiences will try to guess the answer.”
