World Radio Day in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is going to observe the 7th World Radio Day at a local as well as national level on February 13 with participation from public, private and community broadcasters.

This year’s theme ‘Radio and Sports’ calls on radio stations around the world to showcase the beauty of sports in all of its diversity as sporting events have the ability to unite the hearts and minds of people.
On this occasion, Bangladesh will arrange a colourful rally, seminars and cultural programmes featuring representatives from media, civil society, academia, administration and sports.

Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) started the advocacy process for observing WRD and as a result, a WRD Observation National Committee has been formed by Ministry of Information, People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Presently, 17 Community Radio Stations are on-air in the country, aiming to ensure empowerment and right to information for the rural community. They are broadcasting 138 hours of programming per day on information, education, local entertainment, and development motivation activities. Around 100 women and youth are now working with these stations as rural broadcasters.

Radio stations are encouraged to register for World Radio Day here and promote World Radio Day events or special broadcasts on the UNESCO map of activities.
