World Radio Day: International Radio Listeners Club Karachi to organise conference

International Radio Listeners Club (IRLC) in Karachi, Pakistan, will celebrate World Radio Day (WRD) on February 13 with a listeners’ conference.

The event will discuss the role of radio as a part of education.

This year, the theme for the sixth edition of WRD is ‘Radio is You!’.

WRD was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2011 to celebrate radio as a medium, improve cooperation between broadcasters and to encourage major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality over the airwaves.

IRLC was founded in March 1982 in Tandojam area of Sindh, and has been open to membership in Karachi since 1987.

Its activities include arranging meetings between listeners and radio stations and sharing their feedback.

It has also arranged programs with the BBC, Radio Veritas Asia, CRI Urdu  and Feba Radio and conducts frequent surveys for broadcasters.
